Kim Chilvers, LMFt EMDR and Trauma Therapy
EMDR Group and Individual Consultation
I believe you have better days ahead.
Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to take that first step to make changes in your life…
You’re in the right place.
My name is Kim Chilvers, I use she/her pronouns, and am an LMFT with over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. My specialties include people in the midst of life transitions, including adults and adolescents, as well as people struggling with the effects of trauma, depression, and anxiety. I use EMDR and other evidence based interventions to help clients develop coping skills, a better understanding of relationships and work towards achieving life goals, in a safe, non-judgment space. I take a humble and curious approach to the diverse cultural, life style and gender experiences of her clients.
I work from a client centered, trauma informed stance, using empathy to meet people where they are while guiding them to look at how they got there and promoting skills to build change. I utilize EMDR as well as well elements of CBT and DBT to reprocess trauma, identify strengths, reframe stuck patterns.
I am a certified by the EMDR International Association as an EMDR Certified Therapist and as an EMDR Consultant-in-Training.
In addition to therapy one of my joys is training and supporting other therapists so I am happy to now be able to use my 20 years of clinical supervision experience to assist newer EMDR Therapists in developing confidence and skills in both group and individual consultation.
I know starting therapy can be difficult. My goal is to offer you a safe place to learn, heal and grow.
How I work
Therapy with me isn’t all sitting & talking.
We’ll also work on real, practical skills that you can apply to your day-to-day life as well as transforming how you experience past difficulties.
When we meet
My first goal is to make sure you feel safe, we make work on hard stuff, but we will do it at your pace
We will go over what your current problems are and where you hope to end up
Then we will look at the root causes of these problems
After that we will build new skills and strengths while changing how past negative experiences are stored in your brain
Last we slow down and make sure that when problems return you are better able to face them
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a proven intervention used to change how we feel and think about past negative experiences
Your life can change
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensatization and Reprocessing)uses tapping or eye movements to stimulate both sides of your brain to change how you process hard memories or strengthen resources and skills.
